Columbus Police Secure Murder Weapon in Tepe Double Homicide

Columbus police have made significant strides in the investigation of a tragic double homicide involving a local couple. On January 14, Police Chief Elaine Bryant confirmed the recovery of a firearm believed to have played a crucial role in the deaths of Monique and Spencer Tepe.
Details of the Homicide
The couple, aged 39 and 37 respectively, was discovered dead in their residence on North 4th Street on December 30. Authorities began investigating after Spencer Tepe failed to show for work at the dentistry office in Athens where he was employed.
Arrest of the Suspect
Following the investigation, police identified Monique’s ex-husband, Michael David McKee, as a suspect. Surveillance footage captured a vehicle linked to McKee near the crime scene shortly before and after the alleged attacks.
- Suspect Name: Michael David McKee
- Age: 39
- Location of Arrest: Near a fast-food restaurant in Rockford, Illinois
- Date of Arrest: January 10
The vehicle, traced to Rockford where McKee practices medicine, led to the suspect’s apprehension. During the search of his condo, multiple firearms were discovered as crucial evidence.
Ballistic Evidence
One of the firearms has been preliminarily matched to ballistic evidence from the homicide scene. This link is vital in building the case against McKee, who has not cooperated with detectives following his arrest.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
McKee faces charges of murder and aggravated murder in connection with the deaths, currently pending in Franklin County Municipal Court. He is being held at Winnebago County, awaiting extradition to Ohio.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have described the killings as a targeted attack, potentially connected to domestic violence. However, Chief Bryant noted that there were no previous reports of stalking or threats against the Tepes.
As the investigation continues, updates on McKee’s court appearance in Franklin County will be forthcoming. The community remains on alert as police work diligently to bring justice for the victims.
