Glyndebourne Launches Exciting Apprenticeship Program

Glyndebourne is set to launch an innovative apprenticeship program, providing a fresh alternative to traditional university education. This initiative will feature four distinct opportunities tailored to the needs of the performing arts industry.

New Apprenticeship Roles

  • Technical Theatre
  • Wigs, Hair, Makeup, and Prosthetics Technician
  • Assistant Production Manager
  • Audio Visual Technician

The apprenticeships will offer paid, fixed-term contracts lasting up to 24 months. Participants will gain a comprehensive and accredited education while receiving a salary.

Comprehensive Training Program

This program combines hands-on experience within Glyndebourne’s production environment with structured training from a recognized provider. Each apprenticeship will conclude with a final assessment, ensuring participants meet the professional standards of the industry.

Training will be conducted in collaboration with the Chichester College Group, which has a strong track record of supporting apprentices in prominent theaters, including the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Leadership and Vision

The initiative will be managed by Sam Garner-Gibbons, Glyndebourne’s newly appointed Technical & Production Director. Garner-Gibbons brings over a decade of experience in arts sector apprenticeships.

He emphasizes that the program aims to create opportunities for a diverse range of talented individuals, offering them a pathway into the industry. “Apprenticeships allow people to learn directly from experienced professionals while contributing to real productions,” he stated. This approach fosters skill development and confidence.

Glyndebourne has long been recognized for its innovation and excellence. This new program is designed to ensure the continued nurturing of the next generation of theater makers, benefiting both Glyndebourne and the wider arts community.

The deadline for applications is set for November 23, 2025. Note that applications for the Audio Visual Technician role will not be available until 2026.
