Saskatchewan-grown Riders Duo Celebrate Grey Cup Debut

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are set to compete for the Grey Cup with two homegrown players making their championship debut. Longsnapper Jorgen Hus and offensive lineman Logan Ferland, both from Saskatchewan, epitomize the local talent that the team has cultivated.

Saskatchewan’s Own Jorgen Hus Prepares for Grey Cup

Jorgen Hus, 36, is excited to participate in the Grey Cup, an event he has long aspired to reach. Before this opportunity, Hus was focused on carving out a professional career in the NFL. He has now surpassed 150 career games in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and reflects on his journey from Saskatoon’s Hilltops to the University of Regina Rams.

“Finally, it’s been a long time coming,” Hus remarked. “To play for your home province means a lot.” He aims to impress his family and friends, with around 20 supporters cheering for him during the game against the Montreal Alouettes.

Dedication and Team Spirit

Hus believes that the camaraderie among teammates has fueled their success this season. “I have not enjoyed showing up to work more than I do right now,” he said, emphasizing the strong bonds formed both on and off the field.

Logan Ferland: From Melfort to the Grey Cup

Logan Ferland has similarly seen his dreams come to fruition after starting his football journey in Melfort, Saskatchewan. At just 16 years old, he first watched the Grey Cup, and now he has the chance to play in it. “It’s a pinch-yourself moment,” he said, acknowledging the magnitude of reaching this milestone.

Since his debut in 2021, Ferland has established himself as a reliable presence on the Roughriders’ offensive line. Having played all positions across the line, he currently holds the center position and is eager to demonstrate the team’s resilience after a challenging few seasons.

A Commitment to the Community

Ferland’s contributions extend beyond the field. He was honored with the Jake Gaudaur Veterans’ Award in 2025 for his work in the community, following Hus, who received the same recognition in 2024. Ferland actively supports causes such as Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House, sharing his personal experiences to inspire youth.

  • Hus has played over 150 career CFL games.
  • Ferland has been a member of the Roughriders since 2021.
  • The Grey Cup game will be held against the Montreal Alouettes at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday in Winnipeg.
  • Both players have received the Jake Gaudaur Veterans’ Award.

As they prepare for the Grey Cup, Hus and Ferland embody the spirit of Saskatchewan football and look forward to making their mark on this prestigious championship. The community’s support and their shared journeys are sure to inspire fans and future athletes alike.
