Steelers Elevate Trey Sermon, Mark Robinson for Chargers Game

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made significant roster moves ahead of their game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Veteran running back Trey Sermon and linebacker Mark Robinson have been elevated to the active roster for Sunday’s matchup.
Steelers Elevate Trey Sermon
Trey Sermon, once a third-round draft pick, has mainly contributed on special teams for the Steelers this season. After signing with the team following a tryout in May, Sermon has only participated in one offensive snap thus far. His addition to the active roster was necessary due to league rules limiting practice squad elevations.
Roster Adjustments
To allow Sermon’s promotion, the Steelers waived outside linebacker DeMavin Leal. Leal was cleared to return and immediately rejoined the practice squad after his release. This strategic move made room on the roster for Sermon’s participation in the upcoming game.
Mark Robinson Joins the Active Roster
Linebacker Mark Robinson has also been elevated. Drafted by the Steelers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Robinson has experience with the team and spent his first three seasons contributing on special teams. He played in all 34 games over the past two seasons before being released earlier this year.
Previous Teams and Performance
- Spent time on practice squads with the New England Patriots and New York Jets.
- Participated as a practice squad elevation for three games with each team.
- Released by the Jets three weeks ago before rejoining the Steelers.
Quarterback Situation
Notably, rookie quarterback Will Howard was not activated amid these roster changes. The sixth-round pick is currently on injured reserve and must be activated by Wednesday to avoid being sidelined for the remainder of the season.
El-Balad will continue to provide updates on the Steelers and their roster changes as the season progresses.
