Kings Target Free Agent Precious Achiuwa

The Sacramento Kings are reportedly interested in acquiring free agent Precious Achiuwa. This move comes as the Kings seek to strengthen their roster, particularly at the power forward position.
Kings’ Roster Needs
With a current record of 2-4, the Kings have faced challenges due to a lack of size in their lineup. The team has often employed smaller lineups, with DeMar DeRozan taking on the role of power forward. As it stands, their only impactful big man is Domantas Sabonis.
In addition, Keegan Murray is sidelined with a thumb injury, further limiting the Kings’ options. Outside of Sabonis, no player on the roster averages more than 3.2 points per game.
Potential Acquisition of Precious Achiuwa
Achiuwa’s addition could significantly enhance the Kings’ capabilities. Originally drafted 20th overall by the Miami Heat in 2020, the 26-year-old has logged time with the Heat, Raptors, and Knicks. During his career, he has played in 320 regular season games, averaging 7.6 points and 5.7 rebounds in about 20 minutes per game.
Current Status of Precious Achiuwa
- Last season with the Knicks, Achiuwa participated in 57 games, starting in 10 of them.
- He averaged 4.8 points and 5.3 rebounds across four preseason games this year.
- Achiuwa was waived by the Heat due to salary cap constraints as the team neared the luxury tax threshold.
To secure Achiuwa, the Kings will need to waive a player from their full roster.
Future Implications
Achiuwa’s potential signing would provide Sacramento with a much-needed boost in height and skill. His experience in the league could also prove invaluable as the Kings look to turn their season around.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the Kings will balance their roster while aiming to acquire the talented forward.
