Cam Spencer Signs with Grizzlies, Prepares to Face Brother in NBA

Cam Spencer, a native of Davidsonville and a graduate of Boys’ Latin, has recently signed a four-year deal worth $10.4 million with the Memphis Grizzlies. This follows his selection by the Detroit Pistons as the 53rd pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, before being traded to Memphis, where he has inked a two-way contract.

Cam Spencer’s Career Highlights

Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 205 pounds, Spencer has demonstrated his potential on the court. Last season, he played 25 games, averaging 4.2 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. In the current season, his statistics have improved significantly, with averages of 6.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in just five games.

During an interview on Glenn Clark Radio on October 24, Spencer expressed his excitement about extending his career with the Grizzlies. He stated, “I want to be here for my whole career. They showed belief in me, and I’m going to prove them right every single day.” His enthusiasm reflects his determination to succeed with the organization.

College and NBA Journey

Spencer’s collegiate journey included five years at Loyola, Rutgers, and UConn. Notably, he spent two seasons at Loyola alongside Grizzlies teammate Santi Aldama, who was the 30th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Aldama is currently in his fifth season with Memphis.

Reflecting on their shared experiences, Spencer noted the significance of reuniting on the basketball court after their college days. He expressed joy in playing alongside Aldama again, highlighting their friendship as former roommates at Loyola.

In January of last season, Spencer had the unique experience of competing against his older brother, Pat, who plays for the Golden State Warriors. In that game, Spencer scored seven points, while Pat contributed two points, two assists, one block, and one steal. Despite the loss for the Grizzlies, Spencer described the moment as “surreal,” acknowledging the blend of competitiveness and brotherly support.
