CFO Rest: “We’ve Set a New Regional Record in History”

CTBC Flying Oyster (CFO) has made significant strides in the 2025 League of Legends World Championship. Despite a 0-3 defeat to KT Rolster in the quarterfinals, CFO achieved a historic milestone, being the first LCP team to reach the Worlds playoffs since 2015. This accomplishment has resonated with a new wave of fans.

CFO Sets a New Regional Record in History

In a recent interview, Hsu “Rest” Shih-Chieh, CFO’s seasoned toplaner, reflected on the team’s journey and the historical significance of their performance. He expressed mixed emotions following the swift nature of the match, noting, “It was a best of five, but it ended too quickly for my liking.”

Team Strategy and Gameplay

Discussing team dynamics, Rest highlighted their strategic approach. “We typically let Driver (Shen Tsung-Hua) take the first game due to his familiarity with specific matchups. I usually take on the later games,” he explained. Reflecting on his individual performance, Rest shared insights into his gameplay with champions like K’Sante and Rek’Sai.

  • Rest acknowledged struggles in the second game, attributing challenges to a tough lane start.
  • In the third game, he felt more confident, particularly matching Rek’Sai against Sion, a matchup he is well-versed in.

Despite their exit, Rest expressed pride in playing Rek’Sai on an international stage, a rare opportunity in their regional league.

Growth and Communication Improvements

With nearly a decade in competitive gaming, Rest reflected on his personal growth. “I’ve improved significantly outside of just gameplay,” he stated. In the past, he felt disconnected from his teammates during matches, but has worked to enhance communication skills and engage more meaningfully in post-game discussions.

His transition from J Team to CFO has played a crucial role in this development. “The CFO staff encouraged me to express my thoughts and become more comfortable in my communication,” he noted.

Legacy and Sacrifices

Rest pondered the legacy he and CFO have built at Worlds, stating, “Reaching the quarterfinals is already a piece of history for us.” He does not view this achievement as boasting but rather as breaking barriers that have historically constrained their region.

He also reflected on the theme of the tournament, “Earn Your Legacy,” considering the personal and professional sacrifices made to compete at this level. “As a toplaner, sacrifices are integral during gameplay,” Rest concluded, recognizing the dedication involved in pursuing such ambitions.

This remarkable journey has not only strengthened CFO’s position but has also revitalized their fanbase, solidifying their status as a growing force in the world of esports.
