Haverfordwest County Backs Movember in Men’s Health Initiative

Haverfordwest County AFC is set to support Movember, a global campaign dedicated to men’s health awareness. This initiative aims to address serious health issues like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health challenges, including suicide prevention. Throughout November, club members will grow moustaches as a visible sign of their commitment to raising awareness and funds.

Movember’s Impact on Men’s Health

Since its inception in 2003, Movember has successfully raised over £400 million for men’s health initiatives. This funding significantly contributes to critical research aimed at improving health outcomes for men. This year’s campaign emphasizes youth mental health, focusing on educating young people about the importance of mental well-being.

Key Statistics on Mental Health

  • Half of all mental health disorders manifest by age 14.
  • Three-quarters of mental health issues arise by age 24.
  • 60 men lose their lives to suicide every hour globally.

In line with these findings, the Movember Institute of Men’s Health released a report in 2025. This report examines the influence of social media on young men, particularly the effects of content related to masculinity on their well-being.

Community Engagement and Fundraising Efforts

Haverfordwest County AFC encourages supporters from the Pembrokeshire region to participate in fundraising activities. Fans are invited to share photos of their moustaches on social media, promoting awareness of the movement. Moreover, female supporters can encourage their male friends and family to join the cause.

Move for Mental Health Challenge

A significant aspect of this year’s campaign is the “Move for Mental Health” challenge. Participants are encouraged to walk or run a total of 60 kilometers throughout November—a symbolic gesture representing the 60 men who die by suicide every hour worldwide. Every contribution, large or small, is valued and supports the overarching mission of Movember.
