Ernie Clement Secures Fielding Bible Award for Versatile Defense with Blue Jays

Ernie Clement has been awarded the Fielding Bible Multi-Position Award by El-Balad, highlighting his outstanding defensive performance for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2025. The accolade honors the best defenders in Major League Baseball (MLB) across various positions.

Notable Defensive Achievements

In 2025, Clement demonstrated exceptional versatility in the infield. The 29-year-old led MLB with 22 defensive runs saved (DRS), a testament to his defensive capabilities. He adeptly played at multiple positions, including:

  • First Base
  • Second Base
  • Third Base
  • Shortstop

Most of his success came while primarily playing at third and second base, where he accumulated 11 and 10 DRS, respectively. This achievement made Clement only the second player in MLB history to achieve more than 10 DRS at two different positions, following Ryan McMahon of the 2021 Colorado Rockies.

Recognition and Nominations

Clement’s impressive season led to nominations for two Rawlings Gold Glove Awards earlier this month. He was recognized in the following categories:

  • Third Base
  • Utility

Additionally, he was among notable finalists from the Blue Jays, including Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Ty France, Andrés Giménez, and Alejandro Kirk, each competing for honors at their respective positions.

Continuing a Blue Jays Tradition

This award marks the second consecutive year a player from the Blue Jays has received the Fielding Bible Multi-Position Award. Daulton Varsho earned the honor in 2024 and also secured the title of defensive player of the year last season.

Fielding Bible Awards Highlights

Other recipients in the 2025 Fielding Bible Awards include:

  • Defensive Player of the Year: Patrick Bailey (San Francisco Giants)
  • Defensive Team of the Year: Chicago Cubs
  • First Base: Matt Olson (Atlanta Braves)
  • Second Base: Nico Hoerner (Chicago Cubs)

  • Shortstop: Mookie Betts (Los Angeles Dodgers)
  • Left Field: Steven Kwan (Cleveland Guardians)
  • Center Field: Ceddanne Rafaela (Boston Red Sox)
