Bucks Waive Tyler Smith; Andre Jackson, Amir Coffey Secure Roster Spots

The Milwaukee Bucks have announced changes to their roster for the 2025-26 season. After a training camp competition, the team has finalized a 15-man roster. Guard Andre Jackson Jr. and veteran Amir Coffey have secured the last two roster spots. However, 2024 second-round pick Tyler Smith is expected to be waived by the October 20 deadline.

Bucks Finalize Roster Ahead of Season

Coach Doc Rivers and general manager Jon Horst fostered a competitive environment during training camp. Jackson praised the spirit of competition, noting the team’s capable players. He believes this environment will enhance their performance against opponents.

Andre Jackson Jr.’s Performance and Contract

  • Andre Jackson Jr. was acquired from Orlando through a draft night trade in 2023.
  • He played 67 games last season, starting 43.
  • Jackson was instrumental in limiting MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander during a crucial game.
  • His contract of $1.4 million is guaranteed, following a restructuring that involved returning $800,000 to the Bucks.
  • He will celebrate his 24th birthday in November.

Amir Coffey’s Transition to the Bucks

Amir Coffey joined the Bucks on a non-guaranteed training camp deal in August. His commitment paid off as he converted his contract to a guaranteed minimum signing. At 28, he is viewed as a potential starting small forward.

Coffey emphasized the importance of learning the new system and seizing opportunities during practice. He reiterated his dedication to treating every moment, on and off the court, as significant.

Tyler Smith’s Situation

Tyler Smith is on track to be waived. He played only 23 games last season after being selected No. 33 overall. Smith struggled in the summer league, recording a shooting percentage of just 20.7% across five games.

As the Bucks prepare for the upcoming season, they are left with only one original draft pick on the roster: Giannis Antetokounmpo, selected 15th overall in 2013. The team continues to adapt and strategize in hopes of returning to contention.
