YVR Domestic Terminal Evacuated Amid Strong Gas Odor

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has evacuated its domestic terminal following reports of a strong gas odor. The decision was made to ensure passenger safety and address the ongoing situation adequately.
Investigation Underway at YVR Domestic Terminal
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and fire rescue teams are currently at the scene. They are investigating the source of the gas smell reported by passengers. YVR spokesperson Chloe Reynaud emphasized the importance of safety. “We are moving passengers away from impacted areas out of an abundance of caution,” she stated.
Passenger Experiences During Evacuation
Passengers waiting for flights also expressed their concerns. Many reported being evacuated from the terminal and standing outside without their belongings. Geoff Wong, a shuttle bus driver, noted that everyone in the terminal, including airport staff, had to evacuate. He described the scene: “There is a fire truck and police crews; everybody who was in domestic is now outside.”
- Time of evacuation: Around 2:30 p.m.
- Number of evacuees: Hundreds of passengers outside the terminal.
YVR continues to operate, but travelers are urged to check their flight status with airlines before heading to the airport. The investigation to determine the cause of the gas odor is ongoing, and updates will follow as the situation develops.
Authorities’ Response and Safety Measures
Authorities are confident that the source of the gas smell has been identified. YVR remains committed to maintaining safety and security for all passengers and airport staff during this incident. Further details will be provided as they become available.
