Kings’ Keegan Murray Secures $140M Contract Extension for Five Years

Sacramento Kings’ forward Keegan Murray has secured a significant financial commitment from the team, agreeing to a five-year, $140 million contract extension. The announcement was made on Wednesday, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.

Contract Details and Future Outlook

This contract extension ensures that Murray, who was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, will remain with the Kings through at least the 2030-31 season. Previously, he would have entered restricted free agency after this season.

Murray, despite undergoing surgery for a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, showcases the Kings’ confidence in his potential and abilities. The injury occurred during a preseason game against the Raptors on October 8, 2025, which the Kings lost 130-122.

Contribution to the Team

  • In his three-year career, Murray has been consistent.
  • He earned an All-Rookie selection in his first season.
  • Last season, he averaged 12.4 points and a career-high 6.7 rebounds per game.

Expectations After Injury

Murray’s recovery timeline indicates he will miss at least 4-6 weeks following his surgery. Dr. Amy Ladd from Stanford University noted that complete healing of the ligament may take three to six months.

There are expectations for gradual return to the court, but Murray will require protection even after he is cleared to play.

The Kings’ Coaching and Future Aspirations

The Kings are looking to turn things around this season under the leadership of Doug Christie, who has taken over as the full-time coach. Christie previously served as interim head coach after the midseason dismissal of Mike Brown.

Over the past two seasons, Sacramento has missed the playoffs and is determined to secure a place in the postseason this year.
