Dak Prescott Aims to Extend NFL Career Into His 40s

At 32 years old and in his 10th season with the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott has set his sights on extending his NFL career into his 40s. Prescott expressed his ambitions during a recent interview, stating, “Forties would be a good number.” Injuries have challenged him, but he remains determined to play at an elite level.

Dak Prescott’s Contract and Injuries

Prescott is contracted with the Cowboys until 2028. By that time, he will be 35 years old. Despite facing several injuries throughout his career, including:

  • A fractured and dislocated ankle in 2020
  • A broken thumb in 2022
  • A hamstring avulsion in 2024 that required surgery

He remains optimistic about his physical condition and his ability to continue playing.

Changing Perspective on Longevity

When Prescott entered the NFL in 2016, he admired quarterbacks like Tom Brady and Drew Brees for their longevity. However, he never envisioned himself playing as long as they did. Now, he believes reaching his 40s is more realistic.

“The fun and the peace that this game still gives me… will be hard to move on from,” Prescott reflected. He emphasizes the importance of enjoying the game as long as he meets his performance standards.

Milestone Achievements in Franchise History

As he progresses in his career, Prescott is climbing the all-time records for the Cowboys:

  • He needs 150 passing yards to surpass Troy Aikman’s record of 32,942 yards, placing him second in franchise history.
  • Prescott requires one more win to break a tie with Tony Romo, moving him to third place with 79 victories.
  • Earlier this season, he became the all-time leader in completions with 2,919.
  • He ranks second in attempts (4,354) and touchdown passes (223) behind Romo.

Focus on the Present

Although Prescott is aware of his achievements, he claims he doesn’t actively track these statistics. He values being present in the moment above all else. “It’s a testament of how long I’ve been playing,” he remarked, expressing gratitude for his ongoing involvement in the sport he loves.

Dak Prescott’s determination to extend his NFL career into his 40s speaks to his dedication and passion for football. As he continues to break records and achieve milestones, fans eagerly await what the future holds for this talented quarterback.
