STM Blue Line and REM Deux-Montagnes Line Face Service Disruptions

Disruptions impacted public transit in the Greater Montreal area on Thursday morning, highlighting the challenges commuters faced.
STM Blue Line and REM Deux-Montagnes Line Service Disruptions
The Réseau express métropolitain (REM) reported temporary service disruptions across its entire network. This slowdown lasted nearly one hour, affecting multiple lines, including the Deux-Montagnes and Brossard routes.
Cause of the REM Disruption
The root of the issue was a technical fault in the train loading area. According to REM’s operator, Pulsar, this problem reduced the number of available trains. Despite the challenges, Pulsar stated that the service was never fully interrupted, allowing travel to continue, albeit at reduced frequencies.
STM Blue Line Service Interruption
In addition to issues with REM, the STM faced its own challenges. The Blue Line experienced an outage lasting over one hour between Snowdon and Parc stations. The cause was equipment malfunctions on the tracks.
Alternatives During Service Interruptions
- During the REM slowdown, frequencies on affected lines were reduced.
- For the STM Blue Line, a shuttle service was implemented between Snowdon and Parc to assist stranded passengers.
Both transit services have since returned to normal operations, ensuring that commuters can rely on their routes moving forward. Continuous updates and responses to technical issues remain key for improving transit reliability in Greater Montreal.
