Gatwick Selects 11 Companies for £2bn Airport Upgrade Initiative

London Gatwick Airport has announced the selection of 11 companies for a significant £2 billion upgrade initiative. This project aims to enhance various facilities and services within the airport, ensuring a better experience for travelers.

The chosen companies represent a mix of major tier 1 contractors and regional specialists. They will assist in the management and execution of several key projects, including:

- Installation of electric vehicle charging stations
- Enhancements to the self-check-in systems

Focus on SMEs and Regional Specialists
The framework was developed with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in mind. Approximately half of the selected companies provide specialized services and operate from local or regional offices. This approach supports the airport’s commitment to inclusive growth.
Alignment with Long-term Strategy
This selection follows the launch of London Gatwick’s Design Services Framework. It plays a crucial role in the airport’s long-term supply chain strategy. The projects are expected to address:
- Asset replacement
- Capacity expansion
- Improvements in operational efficiency
- Regulatory compliance
- Enhancements in customer service
These frameworks are also in line with the airport’s Decade of Change sustainability programme. This initiative prioritizes carbon reduction, local employment, and commitments to social value.
