ITV Schedules Chaos: Coronation Street and Emmerdale Pulled Tonight

ITV is once again altering its scheduling, resulting in the absence of both Coronation Street and Emmerdale tonight. Instead, viewers can tune in to the Women’s World Cup Qualifier, where Spain will face England. This match is scheduled to air from 7:30 PM to 10:20 PM, with kickoff set for 8 PM at the Estadi Municipal de Son Moix.

The coverage will be hosted by Seema Jaswal, featuring analysis from former Strictly Come Dancing winner Karen Carney and footballer Anita Asante. This change comes despite ITV’s recent initiative to provide more consistent scheduling with a “power hour” format.
Changes to Soap Schedules
Earlier this year, ITV reduced the weekly output of its soaps from six to five episodes. Each episode is now 30 minutes long, airing on weekdays at 8 PM. Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, believes this adjustment meets viewer demands for easier consumption of the storylines.
However, frequent interruptions for sports events have led to increased viewer frustration. Tonight’s cancellation is not the first instance, as both soaps have been sidelined multiple times this season.
Upcoming Schedule for Coronation Street and Emmerdale
- Next Airing: Both shows will return on Sunday, June 7, between 8 PM and 9 PM.
- Upcoming Interruptions: They will not air on Tuesday, June 9, due to the Women’s European Qualifier against Ukraine.
- Special Timing: On Wednesday, June 10, Emmerdale will be on at an earlier time of 7 PM, followed by Coronation Street at 7:30 PM.
- No Soaps: There will be a complete absence of soap episodes on Thursday, June 11, during the opening ceremony.
- Return to Hour-Long Format: Beginning Friday, June 12, Emmerdale will air at 8 PM, followed by Coronation Street at 9 PM.
Both Coronation Street and Emmerdale typically air weekdays at 8 PM and 8:30 PM on ITV1, respectively, and can be streamed on ITVX starting at 7 AM. Viewers can add these shows to their watchlists to stay updated on the latest episodes.
