Roanoke Teams with Dolly Parton to Boost Children’s Book Access

The Junior League of the Roanoke Valley (JLRV) has announced a new initiative partnering with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The aim is to enhance access to reading for local children under five.
Collaborative Effort to Boost Children’s Book Access
This partnership includes multiple Roanoke organizations, such as Roanoke County Public Schools and Vinton Baptist Church. Together, they aim to enroll 1,000 children in the One Thousand Bright Futures program. This initiative will provide every registered child with a new age-appropriate book monthly, from birth until their fifth birthday.
Program Details and Community Support
Shannon Shaffer, the President of JLRV, emphasized the importance of investing in children for the future of the Roanoke Valley. “For nearly 100 years, the JLRV has worked on initiatives that strengthen our community and create opportunities for future generations,” she said. This program supports local children and lays a foundation for learning.
Kicking Off the Initiative
A community kickoff event is scheduled for July 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. The location is the RCPS Community Empowerment Center. This event will celebrate the launch of the One Thousand Bright Futures program.
