Police: Criminal Network Behind Peel Extortion Also Linked to Region’s Shootings

Peel Regional Police have identified a criminal network responsible for violent extortion and shootings predominantly targeting the South Asian community in the region. Recent investigations led to the arrest of 17 suspects connected to 24 incidents of violence, with 106 criminal charges resulting from the operation.

The investigation commenced in December 2025 and involved collaboration with various agencies, including the FBI and CBSA. The suspects are linked not only to Peel Region but also to incidents in British Columbia, the United States, and India.

Nature of the Crimes
Victims, mainly from the South Asian business sector, faced significant threats. Their businesses, including restaurants and trucking services, were targeted with shootings and arson. Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah emphasized that this violence was not random and had escalated over time.
Impact on the Community
Deputy Chief Nick Milonovich highlighted that the criminal organization is tied to approximately half of the illegal firearm discharges in the area this year, totaling around 620 rounds. “Each bullet represents a life that could have been lost,” he stated.
Criminal Charges Overview
The charges against those arrested range from extortion and firearms offenses to arson and conspiracy. Notably, the involvement of the Four Brothers Gang has emerged, with this group linked to 16 of the violent incidents recorded.

Immigration Actions
Among the 17 charged, six individuals may face immigration proceedings. In addition, six more suspects have been detained by Canadian Border Services, with some already removed from Canada.

The investigation remains active, with officers focusing on dismantling the operations of the Four Brothers Gang. Police intend to continue targeting these criminal groups to restore safety in the community.
