Jack Wilshere Jokes About Arsenal’s Plans for 16-Year-Old Max Dowman

Jack Wilshere, the Luton Town manager, has expressed keen interest in Arsenal’s promising young players, particularly 16-year-old Max Dowman. Recently speaking on talkSPORT, Wilshere confirmed he would welcome either Dowman or fellow talented teammate Ethan Nwaneri on loan to bolster his team’s lineup.
Wilshere’s Tenure at Luton Town
Since taking charge in October, the 34-year-old has overseen 43 matches at Luton Town, achieving an impressive 22 wins and 10 draws over a span of 218 days. Under his management, the team clinched the EFL Trophy, narrowly missing the postseason promotion play-offs.
Max Dowman: A Rising Star
Max Dowman has had a standout performance this season, making 17 appearances and scoring seven goals. He made headlines in March by becoming the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history at just 16 years and 73 days. Dowman accomplished this feat with a spectacular solo goal in a 2-0 victory against Everton, after assisting teammate Viktor Gyokeres.
Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, praised Dowman for his impactful play, stating, “It’s not only the goal he scored; he changed the game. He made things happen every time he got the ball.” Arteta noted that Dowman’s ability to perform under pressure at such a young age is exceptional.
Ethan Nwaneri’s Development
Wilshere is also keen on Nwaneri, who has made 23 appearances this season, netting three goals. Nwaneri recently completed a loan to Marseille, where he scored twice in Ligue 1. Wilshere believes the experience gained in the competitive French league will benefit Nwaneri’s development.
Wilshere explained, “Ethan wanted to go out on loan to gain experience. Although it didn’t pan out as hoped, he learned much about real-life football.” Wilshere’s previous experience coaching Arsenal’s Under-18 team further solidifies his understanding of these players’ potential.
Future Prospects for Dowman and Nwaneri
As the World Cup approaches, the return of senior international players might be delayed. This situation presents a unique opportunity for Dowman and Nwaneri to impress Arteta during the summer tour. Both young talents face a critical pre-season to secure spots in the first team as regular players return to training.
