Mercedes Temporarily Bans Kimi Antonelli from Nurburgring: Discover Why
Mercedes has made a significant decision regarding young driver Kimi Antonelli. Rumors circulated about his potential participation in the Nurburgring, but the team has clarified his status.
Mercedes Temporarily Bans Kimi Antonelli from Nurburgring
During the recent Nurburgring 24 Hours, Mercedes’ deputy team principal, Bradley Lord, addressed the speculation about Antonelli’s aspirations to race on the famous Nordschleife track. Lord firmly stated that the team would not be granting Antonelli permission to acquire the DMSB Nordschleife Permit (DPN) this year.
Comments from Bradley Lord
When questioned about Antonelli’s eligibility, Lord responded with a straightforward, “No.” He further elaborated that Antonelli’s humorous remark about wanting to race on the Nordschleife was not to be taken seriously. “I’ve spoken to him about it. I think he meant it more as a joke,” Lord explained, emphasizing that Antonelli has much to achieve before considering such a move into endurance racing.
Max Verstappen’s Experience
Bradley Lord compared Antonelli’s situation to that of Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen. He noted that Verstappen, who has significant experience racing on the Nordschleife and made his debut in the 24-hour race this year, is in a different league. Lord jokingly remarked that Antonelli might need to wait until he has won “four world championships” before racing on the Nurburgring.
Antonelli’s Current Focus
For now, Antonelli is directed to maintain his full attention on Formula 1. The 19-year-old driver is performing exceptionally well, currently leading the drivers’ championship. After winning three consecutive Grand Prix races, he holds a 20-point lead over his teammate, George Russell.
Constructors’ Standings
- Mercedes leads the constructors’ standings.
- The team has accumulated 180 points this season.
- They have won all four races held thus far.
As the season progresses, all eyes will remain on Antonelli as he continues to develop his talent in Formula 1, while his ambitions for the Nurburgring remain on hold for the time being.
