Nolans Aim to Honor Linda and Bernie at Sheffield Concert

Three members of The Nolans are set to perform together for the first time since the passing of their sister Linda earlier this year. Denise, Maureen, and Anne will take the stage at Sheffield’s City Hall in a special concert titled “Simply the Best.” This one-off event aims to raise funds for the Weston Park Cancer Charity.

Nolans Reunite to Honor Sisters

The concert commemorates Linda and Bernie, both of whom battled cancer. Bernie, known for her lead vocals on the hit “I’m in the Mood for Dancing,” passed away in 2013 due to metastatic breast cancer. Linda died in January 2023 at the age of 65, following complications from secondary breast cancer.

A Significant Reunion

This performance marks the first time the trio will perform since 1978. Maureen, Denise, and Anne have been rehearsing diligently, despite acknowledging that their current performance may differ from their earlier days. “Vocally, we’re still strong,” Denise, aged 73, stated.

  • Concert Title: Simply the Best
  • Date: To be held at Sheffield’s City Hall
  • Beneficiary: Weston Park Cancer Charity
  • Performers: Layton Williams, Dr Ranj, Janette Manrara, Hayley Tamaddon, Sam Bailey, Zoe Tyler, Rustie Lee

The Legacy of The Nolans

Formed in 1974, The Nolans gained fame as one of the best-selling girl groups globally, with over 30 million records sold. They achieved success with hits like “I’m in the Mood for Dancing.” Their varied lineup has seen changes over the years, but they have remained a beloved family act.

A Homecoming for The Nolans

Sheffield holds a special place in The Nolans’ hearts. Their parents, Tommy and Maureen, honed their musical skills in Blackpool, where they formed a family singing group. The sisters have fond memories performing in Sheffield, recalling their earlier days in local nightclubs.

Despite their widespread fame, Denise highlighted their connection to Sheffield, saying, “We were so well known there.” Maureen added humorously about the possibility of a future “Nolan convention” featuring their children and grandchildren, all of whom can sing.

Emotional Challenges Ahead

The upcoming concert is packed with emotional significance. Denise reflected on the challenge of performing after losing loved ones: “Everything is difficult when someone goes, everything is a memory.” She, along with Maureen and Anne, aims to honor their sisters through this tribute.

Coleen, the youngest sister, expressed her disappointment in missing the concert due to work commitments. Denise defended her, stating that Coleen would have loved to join them on stage to honor Linda and Bernie.

The Concert’s Impact

The Sheffield concert is the fifth and final fundraiser in its series, co-produced by the Croke family. The event aims not only to provide entertainment but also to support families affected by cancer throughout the region. The Nolans hope their performance will resonate with the audience and honor their legacy.
