Russell Brand Admits Exploitative Relationship With 16-Year-Old at Age 30

Russell Brand recently addressed his past relationships during an interview on “The Megyn Kelly Show.” He specifically discussed his sexual encounter with a 16-year-old when he was 30 years old. While noting that the age of consent in the United Kingdom is 16, he acknowledged that such a relationship was exploitative.
Admittance of Exploitation
During the interview, Brand expressed gratitude to Kelly for allowing him to confront the anger surrounding this topic. He acknowledged, “The plain fact of it is that in Europe and in the United Kingdom, where I’m from, the age of consent is 16. However, I recognize that my behavior was selfish and lacked consideration for how it affected others.”
Brand highlighted the power differential present in relationships involving a famous person and younger individuals. He noted that during his younger years, he did not fully grasp the implications of his actions.
Legal Troubles and Ongoing Cases
In addition to his admissions, Brand faces serious legal issues. In April 2025, he was charged with rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault concerning incidents involving four women from 1999 to 2005. Following these charges, an additional incident from 2009 led to further charges of rape and sexual assault against him, involving two other women.
