Background and Context
This is not an isolated incident. A similar accident occurred in May 2025 on the same stretch of road, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. La Gomera is the second least populated island in the Canary Islands, with a challenging topography that complicates driving despite well-maintained roads.
The GM-2 road spans nearly 34 kilometers, connecting San Sebastián with various parts of the island and traversing the Garajonay National Park, known for its rugged terrain.
The ongoing investigations will look into the causes of this latest accident to prevent future tragedies. As the island mourns, the focus now shifts to the recovery of the victims and the commitment to enhance safety measures on challenging roadways.
