Snowfall Persists: Up to 10 cm Expected in Quebec by Saturday

Forecasts indicate that Quebec is expecting substantial snow accumulations by Saturday, with certain regions facing considerable avalanche risks. This wintery weather will serve as a reminder that the saying “April, don’t take off a thread” is very relevant this year.
Snowfall Predictions: Up to 10 cm Expected in Quebec
From Friday evening through Saturday morning, several areas in Quebec will experience significant snowfall. The Gaspésie region is set for a slight layer of snow, while more substantial accumulations will occur in the Basse-Côte-Nord.
Regional Snow Accumulations
- Lower North Shore: Expect snow accumulations nearing 10 cm between Mingan and Blanc-Sablon.
- Acadian Peninsula (New Brunswick): This area will see the highest precipitation of up to 15 cm.
- Gaspésie: Anticipated snow accumulation is around 5 cm, potentially increasing in mountainous terrains.
Avalanche Risk in Chic-Chocs
The Chic-Chocs mountains are under a considerable avalanche risk. Avalanche Québec reports the possibility of natural avalanches occurring and highlights the likelihood of human-triggered avalanches as well.
Impacts on Skiing and Outdoor Activities
This snowfall could create challenges for off-piste skiing enthusiasts. Skiers and snowmobilers should exercise caution, particularly in areas of increased risk.
Rainfall in Southern Quebec
Meanwhile, southern Quebec is expected to see mostly rain. Forecasts predict:
- St. Lawrence Valley, Estrie, and Beauce: Rain accumulations between 5 to 15 mm.
- Estrie Region: Anticipated rainfall could reach 15 mm.
- North Shore: Lesser amounts forecast, with totals around 5 to 10 mm.
In summary, while snow will blanket parts of Quebec, rainfall will dominate in the south. Residents are urged to remain cautious on the roads due to the winter weather conditions. The return of winter is a notable contrast to the anticipated warm weather ahead.

Fire Risks in Southern Quebec
Additionally, the risk of forest fires remains notably high in southern Quebec regions, amplifying the need for vigilance.
