Heist Thriller Filmed in Kent Quarry Debuts in Cinemas

A new heist thriller, “Fuze,” directed by David Mackenzie, has debuted in select cinemas. Filming took place in Kent, specifically at Wrotham Quarry, two years ago. This location is also known as Olley Sand Pit and is part of Ferns Aggregates.

Film Overview

The fast-paced narrative of “Fuze” revolves around the evacuation of a construction site in London following the discovery of an undetonated Second World War bomb. This unexpected situation conveniently provides cover for a nearby bank heist.

Star-Studded Cast

  • Theo James as Karalis, leader of the criminal gang.
  • Sam Worthington as X, Karalis’s right-hand man.
  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Major Will Tranter, a military bomb disposal expert.
  • Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Chief Superintendent Zuzana.

Setting and Inspirations

Set in contemporary London, “Fuze” opens with the bomb discovery at a construction site in Paddington. The film features flashbacks of Major Tranter’s military service in Afghanistan, depicting a tense IED ambush.

Interestingly, Wrotham Quarry substituted for the Central Asian war zones. This quarry, which primarily produces sand for the glass industry, served as a backdrop for several intense scenes.

Behind the Scenes

During the filming, actor Theo James surprised staff at nearby Nature’s Goods Café in Ryarsh. Seeking a coffee, he chatted with employees and expressed his curiosity about local pottery.

Michelle Hübchen, the café owner, recounted James’s visit. She noted he seemed in a hurry but made time for fans and took pictures. The quaint village of Ryarsh thus garnered a moment of fame through the film.

Character Development

Theo James drew inspiration from various sources for his role as Karalis. He described his character as “fox-like,” combining charm and duplicity. James stated, “You need to like the character to make him feel real.”

Film Release and Streaming

“Fuze” premiered in selected cinemas on April 3. It is set to be available for streaming on Sky Cinema at a future date. This thrilling blend of genres, likened to “The Hurt Locker” and “Ocean’s Eleven,” offers audiences an exciting cinematic experience.
