Green to Start Bowling for KKR Against LSG on Thursday

Cameron Green is set to debut his bowling skills for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their upcoming match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Eden Gardens on Thursday. This marked development follows Green’s absence from bowling in KKR’s initial two matches of the IPL 2026 season.
Bowling Return After Injury Management
Green was initially restricted to batting due to a lower-back injury, which Cricket Australia disclosed on March 30. They indicated that he would begin this season as a specialist batsman while managing his injury. The injury necessitated a short hiatus from bowling, with expectations of a return in about 10 to 12 days.
More than ten days after that update, ESPNcricinfo reports that Green is ready to contribute with the ball. His absence from bowling had caused significant adjustments in KKR’s strategy, especially with several key bowlers unavailable due to various reasons.
Impact of Bowler Absences on KKR
- Mustafizur Rahman was omitted from the squad by the BCCI before the tournament.
- Harshit Rana and Akash Deep were ruled out due to injuries close to the tournament’s start.
- Sunil Narine missed the last match due to illness.
- Varun Chakravarthy was sidelined by a hand injury.
These absences have placed additional pressure on KKR, making Green’s return to bowling even more crucial for the team’s performance.
Green’s Batting Performance Concerns
Despite expectations, Green’s batting form has also raised eyebrows. He has only managed to score 18, 2, and 4 runs in his three innings, with one dismissal being a run-out against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). His performances have led to discussions about his position and role within the team, especially after being acquired for a record sum of INR 25.20 crore at the IPL auction.
Critics, including former player Aaron Finch, noted that Green appears less confident compared to his time with Mumbai Indians (MI). Finch suggested that either a change in batting order or a brief rest could benefit the young player.
Looking Ahead
As KKR prepares for the 15th game of the IPL season, the focus will be on how Green’s return to bowling affects the team dynamics, considering the current challenges posed by injuries and inconsistent performances.
