S Badrinath Criticizes CSK’s IPL 2026 Auction Strategy Before RCB Match

Subramaniam Badrinath has criticized the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) strategies regarding the IPL 2026 auction. His remarks came after the team’s disappointing performance, losing two consecutive matches in the tournament.

Badrinath’s Criticism of CSK’s IPL 2026 Auction Strategy

Badrinath specifically took issue with CSK’s expenditure of INR 14.20 crore on uncapped players Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer. He expressed disbelief at these decisions and raised questions about the management’s judgment during a YouTube video.

Players’ Performance

  • Kartik Sharma: Played two matches, scored 19 runs at a strike rate of 105.56.
  • Prashant Veer: Contributed only six runs from seven balls in his recent match against the Punjab Kings.

Badrinath highlighted the lack of effective contributions from both players. He noted that even if they do manage to score in future matches, it may only be by chance rather than skillful play. He stated, “I will be surprised if they score runs. Even if they do, it will be only through a fluke.”

Concerns Over Team Strategy

Badrinath expressed confusion regarding CSK’s strategic choices. He mentioned the decision to play Veer instead of Jamie Overton, who had performed well in the previous game. Furthermore, he questioned the omission of Akeal Hosein from the lineup entirely.

  • Badrinath’s points on Overton: “He bats and bowls, and you replace him with Prashant Veer.”
  • Concerns for the future: “It’s impossible to understand their thinking.”

Badrinath emphasized that CSK must quickly improve its tactics. The team faces an upcoming match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. With the season progressing, effective strategies are essential for CSK to turn their performance around.
