St-Hubert Closes Two Rotisseries, Impacting Nearly 40 Employees

St-Hubert has announced the closure of two of its Express rotisseries, impacting nearly 40 employees. The affected locations include one in Mercier, Montérégie, and another on Sherbrooke Street in Montréal. These closures stem from a regular reassessment of the company’s network aimed at ensuring its sustainability.

Impact on Employees

According to Marie-Ève Gaudreau, communications advisor for the St-Hubert Group, the decision follows their legal obligations. The company intends to rehire interested employees at other St-Hubert locations. Employees at the Mercier rotisserie received notice at the end of March, while those at the Sherbrooke location will be informed by May 3.

Recent Business Trends

Over the past two years, St-Hubert has closed a total of eight restaurants. However, the company has also opened new locations in various regions, including:

  • Amos
  • Gaspé
  • Saint-Donat
  • Anjou
  • Carrefour Laval

Further openings are anticipated before summer, with new establishments planned for:

  • Place Bonaventure
  • Lachenaie
  • Chibougamau

Additionally, the Laurier restaurant in Quebec City is set to relocate in 2027, while the Valleyfield and Saint-Eustache locations will reopen in April.

Company Overview

St-Hubert currently operates 124 restaurants across Quebec, Ontario, and New Brunswick, serving over 22 million meals annually. The company began in 1951 when Hélène and René Léger opened the first St-Hubert rotisserie on Saint-Hubert Street in Montreal. Notably, it was sold to Recipe Unlimited Corporation, based in Ontario, in 2016 for approximately $537 million.

Recent Investments

Despite the ongoing challenges of a trade war with the United States, St-Hubert committed to investing nearly $12 million in its facilities in Boisbriand and Blainville. Plans include constructing a $650,000 research and development center and further investments in multiple restaurants across the region.

St-Hubert remains focused on maintaining its performance and expanding its presence while navigating the competitive landscape of the food industry.
