Ferris State Secures Skilled WHL Assistant Captain

Ferris State University is moving forward after finishing eighth in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) during the recent season. The Bulldogs are actively seeking improvement, highlighted by the signing of Gavin Garland, a skilled player from the Tri-City Americans in the Western Hockey League (WHL).
Gavin Garland’s Background
Garland, a 20-year-old from Clearwater, Florida, served as an alternate captain for the Tri-City Americans this past season. He was one of only two players to participate in all games, showcasing his dedication and resilience.
Tri-City Americans Performance
- Record: 26 wins, 36 losses, 5 overtime losses, and 1 shootout loss.
- Missed WHL playoffs.
- Garland scored a total of 47 points, ranking third on the team.
- Throughout his two-year WHL career, he accumulated 89 points, including 37 goals.
Ferris State’s Recent Season and Future Plans
The Bulldogs ended their season on a high note, remaining unbeaten in their last four games, with two wins and two draws. They narrowly contested a best-of-three series against the eventual Mason Cup Champion Minnesota State, demonstrating competitive spirit.
Coaching and Legacy
Head coach Brett Riley will enter his second season with Ferris State. His vision is to restore the “legacy of excellence” that the program enjoyed when they reached the National Championship in 2012, finishing as runners-up to Boston College.
The addition of Garland is viewed as a crucial step toward achieving this goal, enhancing the team’s competitive edge as they strive for future successes.
