Leeds Rhinos Honor Geoff Burrow with Emotional Tribute

Leeds Rhinos recently honored Geoff Burrow with an emotional tribute following his passing. Geoff, the father of former rugby player Rob Burrow, died on March 30 after battling health issues. His dedication to raising awareness for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) significantly impacted the community.
Geoff Burrow’s Legacy as an MND Advocate
After Rob’s MND diagnosis in December 2019, Geoff became a passionate campaigner for the disease. His efforts were vital in increasing awareness and funding for MND research and support. Geoff continued his advocacy even after Rob’s passing in June 2024.
Establishment of the Rob Burrow Centre
In November 2025, the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease opened its doors. This center marked a significant milestone as it is the first facility completely dedicated to MND care, research, and holistic support.
Continuing the Fight for MND Awareness
Geoff’s close friend and former teammate, Kevin Sinfield, has also contributed to MND awareness. Through a series of ultra-marathon challenges, he has helped raise over £11 million for the cause.
Tributes from the Rugby Community
- The Leeds Rhinos football club expressed deep sadness over Geoff’s passing.
- Geoff is remembered for his tireless work and passion for the MND community.
- His commitment to supporting individuals without a voice was evident throughout his career as a trade union representative.
In their tribute, Leeds Rhinos offered condolences to Geoff’s wife, Irene, and the Burrow family. They requested privacy for the family during this difficult time.
Support from Rival Teams
Current Super League champions Hull KR also extended their sympathies. They conveyed their support and best wishes to the Burrow family, reflecting the solidarity within the rugby community.
Geoff Burrow’s legacy will live on through his advocacy work and the ongoing commitment to MND awareness.
