Alex Fitzpatrick Clinches First DP World Title at Hero Indian Open

Alex Fitzpatrick has made history by clinching his first DP World Tour title at the Hero Indian Open. This remarkable victory comes just a week after his older brother, Matt Fitzpatrick, won on the PGA Tour. Notably, they are the first siblings to secure wins on the PGA and DP World Tours in consecutive weeks.
Final Round Turnaround
During the final round, Alex Fitzpatrick started four shots behind the defending champion, Eugenio Chacarra. That deficit grew to six after five holes. However, Fitzpatrick staged a phenomenal comeback, while Chacarra struggled to maintain his lead.
- Fitzpatrick achieved eight birdies in just 12 holes starting from the sixth.
- He took the lead on the 15th hole, coinciding with Chacarra’s struggles, which included six bogeys on the day.
- Chacarra’s performance included additional blemishes at holes 16 and 17, allowing Fitzpatrick to expand his lead to four shots by the 18th hole.
Although Fitzpatrick encountered a double bogey on the final hole, he finished strong with a three-under-par score of 69, concluding the tournament at nine under par.
Fitzpatrick’s Emotional Celebration
Reflecting on his victory, Alex Fitzpatrick expressed his emotions, stating, “I will celebrate with a glass of Coca-Cola, call my friends and family, and let it sink in.” He acknowledged the hard work that led him to this win and praised all who supported him. This triumph came in his 87th appearance on the DP World Tour, underscoring the dedication required to achieve success.
Chacarra’s Struggles
While Fitzpatrick flourished, Chacarra’s performance diminished. He began the day with a bogey and was unable to capitalize on opportunities to regain his momentum. Ultimately, he recorded a three-over-par round of 75, finishing in second place at seven under.
Other Notable Performances
Following Fitzpatrick and Chacarra, several golfers tied for third place:
- Andy Sullivan (England)
- Ugo Coussaud (France)
- M.J. Daffue (South Africa)
Each of these players finished the tournament at five under par.
