Houthis Alert: Prepared for Action Amid US-Israel Conflict with Iran

The Houthis, an Iran-aligned group in Yemen, have issued a stark warning regarding their readiness to engage militarily if the United States and Israel escalate their conflict with Iran. This alert comes in light of potential new alliances forming against Iran and its allies.
Houthis’ Readiness for Military Action
In a televised statement, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree declared, “Our fingers are on the trigger for direct military intervention.” This preparation is contingent upon additional nations joining the US and Israel in hostilities against Iran or employing the Red Sea as a base for “hostile operations.”
Regional Implications
The group emphasizes its capacity to target key shipping routes in the Arabian Peninsula, raising concerns of a wider regional conflict. Since taking control of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, in 2014, the Houthis have significantly expanded their military reach.
- The Houthis have attacked vessels in the Red Sea.
- They conducted missile and drone strikes against Israel.
- These actions align with their stated support for Palestinians amid the ongoing violence in Gaza.
Recent Developments and Truce Agreements
Earlier in 2023, following the onset of the conflict in Gaza, the Houthis targeted Israeli-linked vessels but later agreed to a truce with the US in May. This ceasefire resulted in the cessation of attacks on American shipping.
Moreover, the Houthis halted their assaults on Israeli interests after a ceasefire was established in October. Saree urged an end to US and Israeli operations against Iran and urged for restraint in military actions in Lebanon, Iraq, and Palestinian territories.
Alert Against Blockades
In his statement, Saree warned that the Houthis would not permit the Red Sea to serve as a staging ground for assaults against Iran or any Muslim state. He also condemned the tightening of blockades on Yemen, viewing it as an unacceptable escalation.
This strong stance from the Houthis highlights the potential volatility in the region, as tensions between Iran, its allies, and US-Israeli collaborations continue to escalate.
