PIA Restores Direct Islamabad-Manchester Flights After Five-Year Hiatus on October 25

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is resuming direct flights between Islamabad and Manchester after a five-year hiatus. This much-anticipated service will start on October 25, 2025, bringing relief to travelers previously dependent on connecting flights to the UK.

Resumption of Direct Flights

PIA will operate two weekly flights on this route, scheduled for Tuesdays and Saturdays. Flights will depart Islamabad at 12:00 PM, arriving in Manchester at 5:00 PM local time. The return flight from Manchester is set to leave at 7:00 PM and land in Islamabad at 7:00 AM the next day.

This development is a significant improvement for travelers, allowing them to avoid lengthy layovers. Previously, indirect routes often resulted in travel times exceeding 15 hours. The direct service promises to enhance travel convenience and substantially reduce the duration of journeys between the two cities.

Regulatory Approvals

The restart of PIA’s flights followed key regulatory approvals from the UK Civil Aviation Authority. A Foreign Aircraft Operating Permit (FOP) and a Third Country Operator (TCO) approval were crucial in facilitating the airline’s return to UK airspace. These approvals came after a review by the UK’s Air Safety Committee, which lifted previously imposed restrictions in July 2025, thereby allowing for this resumption of services.

Future Expansion Plans

While the initial phase will focus on the Islamabad-Manchester route, PIA has plans to expand further into the UK market. Future destinations include Birmingham and London, aimed at enhancing connectivity and providing more options for passengers traveling between Pakistan and the UK.

  • Before the service suspension in 2020, PIA operated 21 weekly flights to different UK destinations.
  • This included 10 flights to London, nine to Manchester, and two to Birmingham.

Restoring Passenger Confidence

For many expatriates, this resumption symbolizes a return of confidence in PIA’s services. After years of connecting flights, direct services are expected to offer ease and comfort. PIA is committed to enhancing its offerings through competitive fares and improved customer experiences, aiming to win back travelers who may have sought alternatives in the past.

A Positive Outlook

The recommencement of flights on the Islamabad-Manchester route marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for PIA and its customers. As more UK routes are planned, PIA aims to make travel more accessible for the Pakistani diaspora and others traveling for business or tourism.

This development not only improves passenger experience but is also poised to bring economic benefits to both Pakistan and the UK. By strengthening travel connections, PIA is reinforcing ties between the two nations.

In conclusion, the upcoming launch of direct flights between Islamabad and Manchester is an important milestone for PIA. With future plans for additional UK destinations and a focus on enhanced services, PIA’s return to the UK market is set to positively impact the airline industry and its passengers.
