Scott Patterson Explains His Departure from ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’

Fans of the popular Canadian series, *Sullivan’s Crossing*, were surprised to learn that Scott Patterson will not return for the upcoming fourth season. The much-anticipated season is set to premiere on April 20 on The CW and will be available on Netflix shortly after. Patterson, who played the lead character Sully, clarified his departure in a statement, emphasizing that the choice was his.

Scott Patterson’s Departure Explained

Patterson expressed his fondness for the character but revealed ongoing creative differences with the show’s direction. He stated, “The creative differences were becoming untenable, and I just sadly realized that the show was not something I could agree to continue.”

The Show’s Future

The executive producer and showrunner, Roma Roth, indicated that Season 4 picks up immediately after Season 3, where Sully’s character had left for Ireland to support his girlfriend, Helen Culver. While Patterson will not appear physically in this season, Roth noted that Sully remains crucial to the series’ storyline, leaving the possibility of his return in future seasons open.

Clarification on Creative Differences

During his statement, Patterson addressed the way his departure was framed by the show’s producers. He expressed concern that it was being suggested that the creators had moved on from his character. “It’s unfortunate that it is now being implied that they moved on from me/Sully when the fact is the complete opposite,” he said.

Looking Ahead to Season 4

As the storyline progresses, Maggie Sullivan, portrayed by Morgan Kohan, navigates new challenges in her life, including a renewed commitment to Cal, played by Chad Michael Murray. However, the arrival of Maggie’s ex-husband, Liam, introduces unexpected twists that reignite past issues.

Release Dates and Expectations

  • Premiere on The CW: April 20
  • Canadian Premiere on CTV: March 22
  • Netflix Availability: Following the CW premiere

Despite Patterson’s absence, *Sullivan’s Crossing* will continue to develop its narrative, focusing on new dynamics and relationships among the remaining cast. Fans are left to ponder the implications of a show named after a character no longer present.
