Toronto Sets Price for Roy; Another Trade Unfolds in Nashville

Toronto’s Maple Leafs have established their asking price for forward Nicolas Roy. According to hockey insider Frank Seravalli, the club is seeking a first-round draft pick and a prospect for Roy’s services. The organization is not willing to retain any of Roy’s salary, which is valued at $3 million for the remaining year of his contract.

Roy, a 29-year-old forward, was previously involved in the trade that sent Mitch Marner to the Vegas Golden Knights last summer. This season, he has played 58 games for the Leafs, scoring five goals and totaling 20 points, with a plus/minus rating of zero.

Maple Leafs’ Roster Decisions Ahead of Trade Deadline

As the NHL trade deadline approaches, three Maple Leafs players may have already played their final game with the team. Bobby McMann, Scott Laughton, and Oliver Ekman-Larsson were left out of the lineup for the game against the New Jersey Devils on March 4, 2026. This decision was made for roster management purposes.

  • Bobby McMann: Aged 29, he will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. McMann is having a productive year, recording 19 goals and 32 points in 60 games.
  • Scott Laughton: At 31 years old, Laughton has not lived up to expectations since his trade from the Philadelphia Flyers. In total, he has earned 18 points in 76 games with the Leafs.
  • Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Aged 34, Ekman-Larsson may attract interest from teams looking for defensive help. He has achieved 35 points in 61 games, marking his best offensive season since 2018-2019.

Trade Activity in Nashville

Meanwhile, the Colorado Avalanche have strengthened their defense by acquiring Nick Blankenburg from the Nashville Predators. In exchange, the Predators received a fifth-round draft pick for 2027. Following this trade, Nashville now possesses 12 draft picks for the upcoming draft, including four in the third round and five in the fifth round.

Blankenburg has had a decent season, contributing six goals and 15 assists in 49 games with Nashville. Additionally, earlier in the day, the Predators announced that 19-year-old defenseman Viggo Gustafsson signed a three-year entry-level contract. Gustafsson has recorded seven assists in 38 games in Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan league.

As the NHL trade deadline looms, rosters could see significant changes, with the Leafs and Predators actively maneuvering to enhance their teams.
