Jets’ RB Allen Sidelined Indefinitely Due to Knee Injury

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen is sidelined indefinitely due to a serious knee injury. Head coach Aaron Glenn announced that Allen’s status is pending further evaluation. The injury occurred during a kickoff return in the second quarter of the Jets’ 27-21 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Details of Braelon Allen’s Injury

Glenn described the injury as a sprained MCL. This injury may lead to Allen being placed on injured reserve, which would require him to sit out at least four games. However, the team is awaiting confirmation from a second opinion on the injury before making an official decision.

Impact on the Team

Braelon Allen has been a vital part of the Jets’ offense, contributing significantly to their third-ranked rushing attack. Currently, he ranks as the team’s third-leading rusher, with 76 yards over 18 carries.

  • In the game against the Dolphins, Allen rushed for 29 yards on four carries during the Jets’ opening drive.
  • Unfortunately, he fumbled at the Miami 1-yard line, marking his first career fumble.

In Allen’s absence, Isaiah Davis will step in as the primary backup to Breece Hall, who leads the team’s rushing with 238 yards. Davis has been primarily a third-down back but will take on more responsibilities. He has accumulated 201 rushing yards on 35 carries during his time with the Jets.

Other Roster Changes

The Jets are also dealing with other injuries impacting their roster. Defensive end Jermaine Johnson has been upgraded to day-to-day following an ankle injury that sidelined him for two games. Nickel back Michael Carter II is expected to miss the upcoming game due to a concussion, potentially leading to Jarvis Brownlee Jr. stepping in. Brownlee was acquired in a recent trade with the Tennessee Titans.

As the Jets prepare for their next game against the Dallas Cowboys, their offensive strategy may undergo adjustments to accommodate the absence of Allen and maximize the strength of their remaining running backs.
