2026 Eid al-Fitr Holiday Dates Officially Announced

The University of Punjab has announced the holiday schedule for Eid al-Fitr 2026. The university will be closed from March 20 to March 23, allowing students and staff to celebrate the holiday. Following Eid, there will be an additional Spring recess until March 27, with classes resuming on March 30, 2026.

While students are on break, administrative staff will return to work on March 24, ensuring that university operations continue smoothly. This schedule allows students to enjoy the Eid festival and take a break before their academic commitments resume.
Eid al-Fitr 2026 Moon Sighting
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has provided insights regarding the moon sighting for Eid al-Fitr 2026. The new moon of Shawwal 1447 AH is not expected to be visible in Pakistan on March 19, 2026. It will be born at 6:23 AM PST on that day, with an age of 12 to 13 hours at various observatories, indicating it is too early for visual confirmation.
Provisional Eid Date
Based on the PMD’s analysis, Eid al-Fitr is anticipated to be celebrated across Pakistan on March 21, 2026. However, the final decision will rest with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will officially announce the moon sighting.
