Sainsbury’s Job Reductions
As part of the restructuring process, around 300 jobs are expected to be cut. This figure represents a small fraction of Sainsbury’s total workforce, which stands at approximately 140,000 employees.
Changes to Technology and Data Teams

- Two dedicated teams will focus on Sainsbury’s operations.
- A new business intelligence hub will consolidate routine reporting tasks.
Store Leadership Updates

- Creation of four new regional store director roles focused on convenience stores.
- One role will be based in the north, one in central England, and two in the south.
Enhancements to Argos
Recognizing the potential in general merchandise, Sainsbury’s plans to create a dedicated board for Argos. Under the leadership of Graham Biggart, this board will report to the Sainsbury’s operating board. Additionally, changes are aimed at improving the Argos delivery model.
- Local fulfilment centre teams will be restructured.
- Overtime across the driver network will be reduced.
- Standard shift contracts will be utilized more effectively.
Next Level Strategy Overview
Sainsbury’s Next Level plan was initiated in February 2024, with an ambitious goal to save £1 billion over three years. These latest changes align with that objective, enhancing focus on food offerings and improving customer service.
As Sainsbury’s enters the third year of this strategy, the company is determined to maximize the potential of its technology and data. This commitment aims to empower teams to concentrate on delivering quality products and services to customers.
