Tragedy struck Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, on a fateful Tuesday when a mass shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School claimed the lives of five students and one teacher. Among the injured is 12-year-old Maya Gebala, who is currently fighting for her life at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.

  • Hunt revealed that medical staff were initially unsure if Maya would survive the night, but she did.

Hunt describes Maya as an outgoing and spirited individual who enjoys sports, particularly hockey. The family is experiencing profound distress, with Maya’s mother struggling to cope alone. To support her during this difficult time, they have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to cover medical expenses and facilitate her presence at her daughter’s bedside.

Maya demonstrated extraordinary bravery during the incident. According to Hunt, she attempted to lock the library door to protect her classmates. Following that, she tried to hide under a table, where she was subsequently shot. Her friends, recognizing her dire situation, helped carry her out for medical assistance.
