SAQ Donates American Alcohol to Food Banks

The Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) has announced a significant initiative in response to a request from the Quebec government. This decision comes as a temporary measure for certain American products potentially facing quality issues by March 2027.
SAQ’s Donation to Food Banks
As part of this exceptional measure, SAQ will contribute the equivalent value of products sold during this period to Banques alimentaires du Québec. The total donation may reach up to $8.6 million.
Current Regulations and Future Sales
Despite this new initiative, a previous ban remains in effect. Instituted on March 4, 2025, this ban prohibits the sale and ordering of American products. This regulatory action was part of a broader response to the trade tensions initiated under the Trump administration.
Key Details of the Measure
- Description: Donation of American alcohol products to food banks.
- Effective Date: Products are available starting February 12.
- Discount: A 15% discount will apply to all eligible products.
- Additional Savings: Products sold at SAQ Dépôt will have extra discounts.
The SAQ’s initiative highlights a commitment to community support while navigating regulatory challenges. Customers can access the offered products through the SAQ website and at designated SAQ Dépôt locations.
