Knights Prospect Kai Uchacz Set for NHL Debut as Rondbjerg Sidelined

Vegas Golden Knights left wing Jonas Rondbjerg is set to be sidelined for at least a week due to a lower-body injury. The injury occurred during a game against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday. Head coach Bruce Cassidy announced the news on Tuesday, confirming that Rondbjerg has been placed on injured reserve.
Rondbjerg will miss crucial matchups against the Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings, scheduled before the Winter Olympic break. Cassidy did not rule out the possibility of Rondbjerg participating in the Olympics, where he is expected to represent Denmark. Denmark’s first game in the tournament is against Germany on February 12.
Impact of Rondbjerg’s Injury
With Rondbjerg off the roster, the Golden Knights have called up center Kai Uchacz from their AHL affiliate, the Henderson Silver Knights. Uchacz, 22, is an undrafted player from Calgary, Alberta, who is set to make his NHL debut against the Canucks at T-Mobile Arena on Wednesday.
Uchacz’s Professional Journey
- Age: 22
- Hometown: Calgary, Alberta
- Current Team: Henderson Silver Knights
- Goals This Season: 6
- Points This Season: 20 in 39 games
- Rank: Fifth in scoring on the Silver Knights last season
Uchacz has been recognized for his high energy and physical style of play. Cassidy noted that when Uchacz is at his best, he is actively engaged on the ice.
Personal Excitement and Team Chemistry
Uchacz received the news of his call-up on Monday. He shared the moment with his roommate, Ben Hemmerling, and their other roommate, Braeden Bowman. Bowman himself was called up in November and has contributed significantly since then.
“It’s awesome,” Bowman remarked about playing with Uchacz again. “It’s been a while since we’ve been on the same ice together.”
During practice, Uchacz centered the fourth line, flanked by Bowman and Cole Reinhardt. Cassidy believes that their familiarity can enhance their forechecking ability and overall chemistry on the ice.
Anticipation for the Debut Game
Uchacz is excited about his debut, with plans for at least eight family members to attend the game at T-Mobile Arena. “Just pure excitement,” Uchacz expressed. “I’m grateful for this opportunity.”
