Charli XCX Considers Singing a ‘007’ Theme: “Never Say Never”

Charli XCX, a three-time Grammy Award winner, has expressed hesitance about recording a theme song for the iconic James Bond franchise. Recently, she was interviewed on SiriusXM’s The Julia Cunningham Show, where she addressed the potential opportunity to create a 007 theme. Despite her impressive pop lineage, which includes legends like Madonna and Adele, Charli feels that her style might not fit the traditional Bond sound.
Charli XCX’s Concerns About a Bond Theme
During the interview, Charli stated, “I don’t think that I am built for that.” She highlighted her use of AutoTune as a factor that might not align with the classic James Bond music aesthetic. However, she remains open to the opportunity, jokingly stating, “Never say never. I’m open to it if they want to call me, which they won’t.”
Bond Franchise Revamp
The discussion comes at a pivotal time for the James Bond series. Amazon MGM Studios is currently revamping the franchise. In June, Denis Villeneuve was appointed director for the next installment, with Steven Knight announced as the scriptwriter. The team includes returning producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, alongside executive producer Tanya Lapointe.
