Calum Hill Sets Bahrain Course Record with Impressive 61 to Lead

Calum Hill showcased an impressive performance at the Bahrain Championship by equalling the Royal Club’s course record with an 11-under-par 61. This remarkable feat places him four strokes ahead of his competitors at the halfway point of the tournament.

Course Record Set in Bahrain

The Scotsman matched the lowest score previously set by Brandon Robinson Thompson in the opening round of the 2025 tournament. With his total score now at 16 under, Hill is on track to secure his third title on the DP World Tour.

Current Standings

  • Calum Hill: 16 under (61, 1st round)
  • Freddy Schott: 12 under (67, 2nd round)
  • Ugo Coussaud: 9 under
  • Sergio Garcia: 8 under (part of a group of 11 players)
  • Patrick Reed: 6 under

Freddy Schott, who led the first round, added a 67 to his earlier score of 65, leaving him three shots behind Hill. Ugo Coussaud moved into a stronger position, finishing at nine under, while Patrick Reed, the previous week’s champion in Dubai, remains at six under.

Hill’s Remarkable Round

Hill’s round included a remarkable 11 birdies. “I started off really well, then made a few long-range putts and kept birdieing,” he commented on his performance. Notably, Hill was aware he needed to hole his last shot to break the course record, and he felt confident as the ball flew through the air.

His round began with a birdie, and from the fourth hole, his game escalated as he made three consecutive birdies. By the time he had reached the ninth and tenth holes, Hill was well on his way, accumulating further birdies. He continued his momentum on the 13th and 14th holes with outstanding approach shots, although he played a par at 15. Hill concluded his round with three back-to-back birdies. This strong finish allowed him to maintain a significant lead, especially as Schott faced challenges with two dropped shots on the 15th and 18th holes.
