Mike McDaniel is set to return to California as the Los Angeles Chargers plan to hire him as their next offensive coordinator. This move comes after he served as the head coach for the Miami Dolphins and an offensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers.
Mike McDaniel’s Coaching Journey
According to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, the announcement was made Tuesday evening. Although McDaniel has not yet signed a deal, he remains a candidate for head coaching positions with the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders.
If he takes on the role of offensive coordinator in 2026, it is anticipated that he will work alongside Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. Earlier on the same day, McDaniel withdrew his name from consideration for the head coach position with the Cleveland Browns.
Previous Roles and Experience
- Offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers in 2021
- Head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2022, until his dismissal this offseason
The Chargers had recently parted ways with their previous offensive coordinator, Greg Roman, making McDaniel a prime candidate for the position. The franchise is optimistic that his extensive background in offensive strategies will enhance their performance in the upcoming season.
As the Chargers look to solidify their coaching staff, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how McDaniel’s return as an offensive coordinator will impact the team’s gameplay.
