Bengals Game Insights: Ja’Marr Chase Impresses; Zac Taylor’s 2020 Strategy; Inactives

Head coach Zac Taylor is optimistic about the Cincinnati Bengals’ 2026 season, drawing parallels to their challenging 2020 season. Back then, the Bengals ended with a record of 4-11-1, but in 2021, they bounced back to become AFC North champions and reached the Super Bowl. Taylor emphasized confidence in the current roster during a post-practice interview.

Building on Progress in 2026

As the team assesses its future, Taylor noted that the offensive scheme is more advanced now compared to 2021. The players are beginning to grasp the system effectively, which should help the Bengals take the next step forward.

“I feel really good about each unit and position group,” Taylor stated. “We can consistently play better over the course of the season.” The offensive line has been strengthened, contributing to the team’s improvements in yardage, points scored, and sacks allowed.

Key Player Developments

  • Quarterback Joe Flacco has started six times since October 12.
  • Quarterback Joe Burrow has made four successful comebacks.

Injury Report and Game Updates

Backup cornerback Josh Newton sustained a hamstring injury and was inactive during a recent game, providing an opportunity for free-agent rookie Brayln Lux to make his debut. Lux played 32 snaps in a significant 45-21 victory over Miami last week. Newton’s playing time was limited this season, as Jalen Davis has made strides at the nickel position.

In addition to Newton, several players were also inactive due to injuries. This included:

  • Charlie Jones (ankle)
  • Joseph Ossai (ankle)
  • P.J. Jules (ankle)
  • Cam Grandy (chest)
  • Jordan Jefferson (defensive tackle)

On a positive note, defensive tackle B.J. Hill and tight end Noah Fant, who were both questionable due to ankle injuries, were active for the game.

Statistical Highlights

During the season, Burrow has been climbing the franchise’s all-time passing touchdown ranks. He is just two touchdown passes away from tying Carson Palmer for fourth place. Additionally, kicker Evan McPherson is also nearing a milestone, needing two field goals to tie Horst Muhlmann for fifth-most in Bengals history.

As the Bengals prepare for upcoming challenges, Taylor’s leadership and strategic insights offer hope for a successful season ahead.
