Christmas Day May Bring Slick Road Conditions to Minnesota

A NEXT Drive Alert has been issued for northern and central Minnesota due to the possibility of icy road conditions. This alert will be active until 6 a.m. on Friday. Road temperatures may drop to freezing, leading to slick surfaces from Thursday afternoon through Friday morning.
Weather Conditions and Alerts
Areas north of Interstate 94 are especially vulnerable to freezing drizzle. Significant ice accumulation, potentially up to a tenth of an inch, is anticipated. A winter weather advisory is in effect for these regions until 9 a.m. on Friday.
Forecast for Friday and the Weekend
- The drizzle is expected to conclude before sunrise on Friday.
- Dense fog and freezing fog may develop in the morning.
- Temperatures on Friday will be in the upper 30s.
- On Saturday, highs are projected to reach the low 40s.
Following the warmer temperatures, a cold spell will affect the area on Sunday and Monday. Expected temperatures will range from the teens to single digits, with wind gusts potentially hitting 40 mph. This could result in wind chills dropping to 15 degrees below zero.
Long-Term Outlook
A warm-up is anticipated later next week, bringing a mix of sun and clouds. Fortunately, there are no major storms expected to close out 2025.
