Hawaii County Fire Chief Kazuo Todd Passes Away Unexpectedly at 45

Hawaii is mourning the unexpected loss of Fire Chief Kazuo Todd, who passed away early Sunday at the age of 45. Todd served as a dedicated member of the Hawaii Fire Department for 21 years and became fire chief in 2021.
Leadership and Legacy
Todd’s commitment to fire safety and community service earned him respect across Hawaii County. His mother, Bobby Jean Leithead-Todd, expressed her pride and gratitude, stating that he inspired many and changed lives for the better.
While an exact cause of death has not been disclosed, Hawaii County Mayor Kimo Alameda confirmed it was due to natural causes. Deputy Chief Daniel Volpe will temporarily take over the duties of fire chief.
