Schola Cantorum Presents Annual Christmas Concert on Dec. 13-14

Schola Cantorum, a prominent choral group based in Waynesboro, will host its annual Christmas concert titled “What Sweeter Music” on December 13 and 14. This year’s performances will take place in two locations: at Central Methodist Church in Staunton and First Baptist Church in Waynesboro.

Concert Details
Directed by Adam Phillips, the concert will feature a 65-voice chorus performing beloved Christmas carols. Highlights of the program include:
- Two versions of “Ave Maria”
- “O Magnum Mysterium” by Olivier Messiaen
- “Hodie Christus Natus Est” by Francis Poulenc
- “What Sweeter Music” by John Rutter
The concert will culminate in a communal singing of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah.” Admission to both performances is free, with a free-will offering collected during intermission. A reception will follow each concert.

Both concert venues are handicapped-accessible, ensuring all community members can enjoy the performance. Schola Cantorum is composed of professional musicians and lifelong singers. The group meets weekly from September to May and showcases its talent twice a year.
