Christine Williamson will take the lead role in ESPN’s women’s basketball coverage, succeeding Elle Duncan. The announcement came from ESPN on Thursday.
New Role for Christine Williamson
Williamson has been a part of ESPN since 2019. She will also co-anchor the 6 p.m. ET “SportsCenter” program with Kevin Negandhi. She steps into her new responsibilities immediately, starting with pregame and halftime coverage for the upcoming game on December 14 between Penn State and No. 3 South Carolina.
Upcoming Responsibilities
- Beginning January, Williamson will host the “Women’s College Gameday” show.
- She will continue sharing the “SportsCenter” desk with Negandhi.
- Williamson will anchor coverage for the 2026 NCAA Women’s Final Four in April.
ESPN President of Content, Burke Magnus, expressed confidence in Williamson’s abilities. He stated, “Christine has earned these high-profile roles on two of our most important content areas — ‘SportsCenter’ and women’s college basketball.”
Background and Experience
Before moving into this role, Williamson worked at ESPN as a digital host. She co-anchored the 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. ET episodes of “SportsCenter” with Matt Barrie and co-hosted “Countdown to College Gameday” during the college football season. Additionally, Williamson is a former college volleyball player from the University of Miami.
Transition from Elle Duncan
Elle Duncan is transitioning to Netflix, where she will play a key role in its expanding sports coverage. Reports indicate that Duncan’s new deal allows her to appear on other platforms.
As ESPN embraces this leadership change, fans can look forward to Williamson’s dynamic connection to the sports community. Her energy, background, and passion for women’s basketball promise to enhance ESPN’s coverage significantly.
