Paul Pogba to Rejoin Monaco Squad Following Doping Ban

Monaco has confirmed that Paul Pogba will rejoin the squad following his doping ban. Despite a challenging few years, Pogba’s return could enhance the team’s midfield dynamics.
Pogba’s Doping Suspension
Paul Pogba, the French international and 2018 World Cup winner, faced a provisional four-year ban from football due to a positive doping test. The test revealed the presence of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in August 2023. In February 2024, the initial ruling was made after the doping test results were analyzed.
Pogba has consistently maintained that the positive test was a mistake. He attributed the substance found in his blood to a supplement he consumed without knowledge of its banned ingredients. Fortunately, in March 2024, his suspension was reduced, allowing him to make a return to competitive football.
Monaco’s Expectations
Monaco’s manager, Sebastien Pocognoli, expressed optimism regarding Pogba’s reintegration into the squad. He believes Pogba possesses the skills needed to contribute to the team’s strategy on the field. Pocognoli noted that Pogba’s experience and leadership will be vital for Monaco, both on and off the pitch.
- Pogba’s first match back could be against Rennes, marking his League 1 debut.
- He previously played for Le Havre before moving to Manchester United without making a senior appearance there.
- Pogba joined Juventus in 2012 and returned to Manchester United in 2016 for a then world record fee of £89 million.
- After his second stint in Turin, his contract was mutually terminated after just 12 appearances.
- Pogba played a crucial role in France’s 2018 World Cup victory, scoring in the final against Croatia.
As Pogba prepares for his return, the forthcoming matches will be pivotal in determining his impact on Monaco’s campaign and his own career resurgence.
